What We Feed Our Dogs
What We Feed Our Dogs
Many breeds of dogs (13 at last count) have (by nature) a lowered immune system. In an effort to combat the resultant "allergies", dog food manufacturers attempt to produce products, the use of which will result in a healthy animal. With the ever changing products available, we are constantly on the search for that perfect food for each of our animals. Hence, while some dogs do well on a particular food, others may not.
These are the foods that I currently feed to my dogs.
PURINA PUPPY CHOW
Bulldogs use the smaller kibble.
The Large Breed kibble would be nicer to use, because it's easier to pick up off the floor. (Puppies like to climb into their dishes, and make messes!) But I have found that any Large Breed dog food is designed for those breeds who require a lower Protein. So smaller breeds really cannot use Large Breed foods. Bulldogs and Frenchies need the smaller kibble.
Purina Puppy Chow is a good standard for bulldogs until they start to become adults.
PURINA PRO PLAN - SHREDDED CHICKEN
We are always willing to try new foods on the market, but somehow, we always seem to come back to Purina Products.
I have most of my dogs on this food for two reasons. Obviously, as show dogs, their condition is of utmost importance for success in the Dog Show arena. Secondly, they LOVE this food !
Ooh-Rah! was on Royal Canin, which improved his skin, but did not improve his coat. Given that it's more expensive, and harder and harder to find, he is now on Shredded Chicken, and quite happy about it.
This food is much more readily available in the pet food stores, especially Pet Smart.
PURINA ONE - SENSITIVE SYSTEMS
This is a fish based food that is especially good for dogs who have skin and coat problems.
I usually will put a Rescue dog on this product until I can determine how their immune system is. Then they usually get switched over to Purina Dog Chow.
This food is also easily obtainable in Pet Smart, Pet Co, etc.
NATURE'S RECIPE VEGETARIAN DIET
This is also a good food for dogs who seem to have poor immune systems or food allergies. It doesn't have any meat. I have used this on a couple of dogs, and they seem to LOVE IT.
